Epping Ongar Railway

I saw that Paw Patrol’s Chase and Marshall were going to be at Weald Station so I booked tickets for the boys and I. Micaiah really likes Paw Patrol and I do try to let them see the characters they like where possible. I booked unlimited travel tickets which meant I could travel along the route for the whole day.

We started our journey from Kennington Tube station. I drove to the tube station as I don’t have a tube station which is close to me. The boys had no idea where they were going I just told them we are going on a long adventure. From Kennington we went to Bank station then changed and got the tube all the way to Epping Station.

When we got to Epping Station we took a vintage bus which took us to Ongar station. The bus ride was 20 minutes long. The conductor gave us information along the way about the places we passed. The boys have been to London Transport Museum so they have seen vintage buses before and they know that my grandma used to be a conductor on them. Driving on a vintage bus was a great experience for the boys because it is completely different to buses today. The boys enjoyed pulling the string to ring the bell instead of pressing a button.

Once we got to North Weald station the boys were so shocked to see Chase and Marshall. There was also a mini disco for the children and some face painting which was a nice touch. We then got on a steam train to Ongar. There is a time-table available so be sure to check it out because some trains are diesel and some are steam. The boys have been on a steam train before so this was nothing new to them either.

We got off the train at Ongar and was feeling hungry. We decided to go for a walk and managed to find a nice resturant to have some lunch. The boys enjoyed pizza and I enjoyed prawns. After we ate we headed back home. We managed to get the last train so it was perfect timing. Epping Ongar Railway have events throughout the year so keep an eye out on there website (http://eorailway.co.uk). We didnt get to spend much time going along the railway because we got there late. However, the purpose for us going was to see Paw Patrol so we achieved that and more.

Finally we got on another vintage bus back to Epping station to begin our journey home. Overall it was a good day out. Character meet and great, experiencing history and of course a great lunch. Im sure we will be back.
