Flight Travel Essentials

Travelling with children

Since the summer holidays is coming up I thought now is a good time to write this blog post. Mums may be nervous travelling with children for the first time so I have put together a little list which helps the boys and I feel comfortable on the plane. My boys are 3 and 7 but have been travelling since they were 7 months. Ahaziah went on his first long haul flight to Jamaica when he was 8 months old, he was as good as gold. Micaiah travelled on the Eurostar to Disneyland Paris when he was 7 months old, he also was brilliant.

I love to carry a rucksack when I have the boys, I find it so much easier, it is out the way and I am able to have my hands free. Inside my rucksack I usually carry my

  • Charger
  • Portable charger
  • Purse
  • Keys
  • Phone
  • Travel adaptor
  • Travel pillow
  • Blanket
  • Water bottle
  • Lipgloss

I have a little A5 folder which I carry our passports, the boys birth certificate as they don’t have my surname, travel insurance documents and boarding pass if its not on my phone. I need my blanket on the plane because I find planes quiet cold, plus I love to have my home to home comforts to sleep. I also like to bring my water bottle because I buy a big bottle of water once through security and I prefer to have my own water bottle than plastic water bottles.

Trunki/ Rucksack

If we are on a long haul flight I allow the boys to bring there Trunki’s. I find that Tunki’s don’t hold a lot of things but are very handy to get around the airport and for the boys to sit on when they get tired. If they do bring a Trunki inside I put

  • Blanket
  • IPad
  • DVD player and DVDs
  • Water bottles
  • Chargers
  • Spare clothes
  • Colouring/ Activity book
  • Colouring pens
  • Toy
  • Snacks

If I bring a rucksack I usually have the blanket, water bottle, iPad and charger.

Other Essentials

If your child has or needs any medication bring travel sized ones, I usually have tissue with me and I sometimes will bring a mini first aid kit. If your child is younger remember to bring bottles/ food etc.

These are the main things we need for a flight, what do you need?

  1. Thanks for this post! First of all, your boys are adorable!! I also am envious of their great luggage. I love the info on making everything easier while traveling with kids. We have a 3 and 6 year old and we have started traveling more.

    1. I read your blog I really enjoyed it. I usually bring books on long haul flights as well. Yes to the snacks. When I was reading my list my son was like what about food we need food 😂

  2. Such fab article and very useful to everybody travelling with children! My son is 9 (a tall 9!) and has outgrown his trunkie 🙁 but I agree, they are very useful for sitting about the airport. MM xx
